Outage impacts nearly 1,500 in Thermopolis Thursday

November 6, 2015

THERMOPOLIS — Nearly 1,500 Rocky Mountain Power customers in the Thermopolis area were without power for about 4.5 hours Thursday.

According to Rocky Mountain Power Spokesperson Margaret Oler, Thursday morning’s power outage began at 7:02 a.m. and initially impacted 1,468 customers. She said earlier reports of 2,500 customers was due to duplicate reports being received.

Oler said the outage was due to a problem at the Western Area Power Administration substation. She said since the substation is not owned by Rocky Mountain Power, she did not have information on exactly what was the problem.

She said power was restored to the majority of customers at 11:40 a.m. With 181 customers in the Red Canyon area still without power, crews ran the lines looking for issues and repaired a damaged switch and insulator. Oler said all power was restored at 2:40 p.m.

Rocky Mountain Power serves several communities in Wyoming including Lovell, Greybull, Riverton, Lander, Worland and Thermopolis.
