Leland Christensen shakes hands with Leroy Fabricius while going door-to-door in Worland Tuesday afternoon to introduce himself to residents while campaigning for the U.S. House of Representatives Republican nomination.

WORLAND – U.S. House of Representative hopeful Leland Christensen stopped in Worland and spent Monday night and Tuesday meeting residents.

First up on his mini-tour of Worland was meeting with people Monday night and making calls. Then his first stop on Tuesday was breakfast at Maggie's.

Christensen toured the Wyoming Sugar Factory and knocked on doors to meet the people of Worland and spread the message of his campaign.

A fifth-generation Wyoming native, Christensen has served in the National Guard, as a sheriff, as a logger, as a two-term county commissioner and is a current state senator.

He said he's running for the U.S. House because he cares about the future of the State of Wyoming, the country and wants to make sure the next generation has a future of opportunities.

"As far as what sets me apart in this race is (my) Wyoming credentials and my background. It's fairly diverse in Wyoming from going to agriculture to business to public service, but also my background in the Legislature, and my experiences there: being pretty effective in a relative short amount of time on talking on some tough topics ... and working through prickly issues," Christensen said.

He added the reason he decided to run is because of a conversation from Rep. Cynthia Lummis where they sat down talked about what's going on in Washington, D.C. and the opportunities and challenges there were for Wyoming and for the nation.

"Along the way, I had a lot of different experiences and opportunities to serve ... and be involved in Wyoming," he said. "I have a real background working in contentious situations with a broad and diverse group of people and we've been able to find winning solutions."

Christensen said being able to bring people together and work on big issues will be critical as a Wyoming congressman. "It's all about how well you're able to work with people and how well you're able to get the Wyoming message and priorities (across)."

Christensen will be back in town today to go door-to-door.
