Mackenzie Cottrell sets her teammate, and fellow senior, Charlee Townsend for a spike during Friday night's loss to Douglas.

WORLAND - Having spent the first three weeks on the road in Riverton, Cody and Rawlins the WyoPreps No. 2 ranked Worland High School volleyball team was able to play their first home match of the season Friday night.

Opening a three-match home stand against the No.4 Douglas Lady Bearcats the Lady Warriors were in a battle all night in what felt like a state tournament game, but eventually fell three games to one.

Worland was without senior Bailey Gibbons, who missed the contest due to a rodeo event also that night, but the Lady Warriors were still able to power ahead.

In game one neither team was able to gain separation from the other, four points was the most either team could lead by and three-point swings were the norm. Douglas was finally able to go on a run of their own to win the first game 25-21.

Game two the Lady Warriors seemed to shake the nerves jumping on Douglas 4-1. Worland would not trail the entirety of the game while at one point holding a seven-point lead, ultimately winning 25-19 and tying the match at one game apiece.

Game three was the turning point of the match, Worland jumped out to another sizable lead but Douglas kept chipping away and eventually took the game 25-23.

With Worland on the ropes Douglas went after the defending champs taking a commanding 20-10 lead. However, the Lady Warriors were not going quietly as they cut the Lady Bearcats lead to five, feeding off the excited home crowd. A rattled Douglas team would bounce back just enough to close the door on any comeback attempt by Worland winning the game 25-17 and the match 3-1.

WHS volleyball coach Brittany Miller was disappointed with the second loss on the season but knows her team will be able to bounce back. "We played tight tonight," said coach Miller. "We were playing not to lose rather than playing to win. We weren't loose and having fun and that's when we tend to let the mistakes compound. So we'll look to correct that against Newcastle (today)."

The Lady Warriors will be back in action today against Newcastle at 2 p.m.
