RAWLINS - The first day of the 3A East regional volleyball tournament in Rawlins is in the books and for the Worland Lady Warriors and the Hot Springs County Lady Bobcats, their seasons are on the line today.

Worland Lady Warriors

As the No. 2 seed out of the West quadrant Worland made quick work of the Wheatland Lady Bulldogs in their first regional match. Winning 3-0, 25-16, 25-14, 25-16, the Lady Warriors advanced into the semifinals of the regional tournament.

Meeting Worland in the semifinals were the Douglas Lady Bearcats. On Sept. 16 Douglas handed Worland their first home loss of the season in a 3-1 defeat. A win in the semifinals would stamp their ticket for the state tournament in Casper Nov. 3-5.

Unfortunately, Douglas was the better team late Friday afternoon, as Worland fell 3-0 to the Lady Bearcats, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13.

Today Worland plays the winner of the Newcastle/Torrington in a loser goes home match starting at 12:30 p.m. at Rawlins High School. Worland has victories against both teams, on Sept. 17 Worland beat Newcastle 3-0, then on Oct. 7 they beat Torrington 3-0.

Thermopolis Lady Bobcats

Going against the Douglas Lady Bearcats to open the regional tournament the Lady Bobcats had difficulty putting together solid scoring runs. Douglas won the match 3-1, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-13.

The Lady Bobcats will need to win two straight matches to keep their season alive. First at 10:45 a.m. they will need to beat Wheatland, who they defeated earlier in the season. Then if they advance they will have to get by Rawlins at 2:15 p.m. Both games will be played at Rawlins High School.
