WHS speech and debate honors

April 13, 2017

WORLAND – During the Worland High School speech and debate awards banquet Thursday evening students were honored for their dedication and hard work during 2016-2017 the speech and debate season.

Worland High School speech and debate coach Rick Dorn stated the speech and debate season is the longest season of all academic seasons going from November through March.

Speech and debate seniors took the opportunity to start the banquet with a few awards of their own for specific students whom they felt deserved special mention for the things that they had done for the team throughout the season. Awards were given for a variety of reasons; from the ‘I got your back’ award to the ‘steadfast’ award to the ‘daddy’ award.

Of the many awards that Dorn awarded, all-state awards were given to Paris Caines, Rachel Carver, Sariah Durrant, Dalen Brazelton and Dominic Damiano. Durrant and Taelor Nielsen received Academic All-American and Nielsen and Brazelton qualified for nationals.

The eight seniors ended the banquet with a heartfelt thank you to coach Dorn and each took a turn explaining how Dorn brought out the best in them and showed them how they could achieve more than they ever dreamed of achieving.
