Warrior Donavin Koch clears a hurdle in the 300-meter hurdles last Thursday during the D & D Invitational at Worland High School.

RIVERTON - In a blink of an eye the 3A East regional meet will be underway and with the end of the season in sight the Worland High School track team has been working hard to make the most of what time they have left.

Yesterday the Warriors and Lady Warriors traveled to Riverton for the Riverton Twilight meet and junior Saige Jones summed up the meet with a short but effective message.

"The best quote of the day was when Saige Jones got on the bus and said, 'It's a great day to be a Warrior' and the whole bus exploded. That just shows the excitement and the mentality these kids have, because we had a lot of PRs (personal records)," said WHS track coach Tracey Wiley. "Just the excitement from kids and hearing them whoop and holler all day long, it was awesome to see."

It was a great day to be a Warrior, the boys 4x800-meter relay team of Tyler Hasbany, Porter Harman, Nathaniel Nelson and Gabe Webster automatically qualified for the state meet in Casper. While Brad Lyman also AQ'd in the 110 hurdles and Lyndzi Rich AQ'd in the discus, which also turned out to be a 30-foot personal record for Rich.

"She threw a 30-foot PR. She's just an athlete and you knew she would figure it out," said Wiley.

Wiley was impressed with her teams outing and is starting to see her athletes hit that next level in their performances.

"We like Riverton's track; it's a fast track. It was perfect weather and overall as a team we had a good day," said Wiley. "The kids are starting to hit their peaks and they're giving it their all. Everyone is encouraging each other. We had some kids cheering on the 800 boys and were excited when they AQ'd. Like Saige said it's a great day to be a Warrior."

WHS track has one more meet this week which will be here in Worland, their final home meet of the season. Field events will being at 2 p.m. with running events starting at 3:15 p.m.

Full results from the Riverton Twilight meet will be in Thursday's edition of the Northern Wyoming Daily News.
