Warrior Andrew Nelson pushes ahead during his leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay Tuesday night at the Worland Aquatic Center.

WORLAND - Tuesday night at the Worland Aquatic Center was an eventful one for the Worland Warriors as they hosted Cody and Powell for the Worland Triangular, their final swim meet of the season.

On top of honoring their two seniors, Dalton Jeffries and Josiah Sanchez, on senior night, the Warriors also had swimmer Andrew Nelson, in the 100-yard backstroke, and diver Diamond Hill automatically qualify for the 3A State Meet in Laramie on Feb. 15-17.

Hill and Nelson have been on the cusp of qualifying since returning from break and finally broke through Tuesday night.

"The kids looked great, not every time was a PR [personal record] but they still looked very good in the water," said WHS boys swimming head/diving coach Jeff Bishop.

"We swam some pretty good times, we had new qualifiers Andrew Nelson in the 100 backstroke and Diamond Hill in diving," said WHS boys assistant/swimming coach Justin Howe.

Added Howe about his senior swimmers: "It's going to be hard to fill their shoes and we'll miss them in the pool and out."

Hill scored a 152.35 on six dives besting the qualifying mark of 145. With qualifying done, Bishop will have Hill begin working on new dives with higher degrees of difficulty as they prepare for conference and state.

"We have another five to throw in there and a lot of those are higher degrees of difficulty," said Bishop.

The Warriors have two more meets this week, another triangular with Cody and Powell in Cody, then the Lander Invite in Lander on Saturday. Only having two days of practice before their next meet does not give much time for training but Bishop did note that they can squeeze one hard practice in for this week, "We'll go hard for Wednesday's practice."

"This is a tough week but next week will be H-E double hockey sticks week. This stretch here is the hardest part of our season," said Howe.

While Tuesday's triangular was the Warriors final home meet of the season, it was also their third-straight home meet. The Warrior swimmers and diver put on a show for the hometown faithful and as important as that was, Bishop and Howe also recognized the tremendous support they received from the swimming parents and community to help pull off three consecutive home meets.

"We had timers for every single meet, it was awesome. We had great help from the parents, fans and community," said Bishop.

Added Howe: "The community and parents were great and we had awesome support for our home meets, it was a great three meets."
