Minor injuries in two-vehicle crash

June 8, 2018

WORLAND — A Worland teenager sustained “minor to no injuries” in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Lt. Erin DeVries said at milepost 170, at about 7:26 a.m., about four miles north of Worland on U.S. 20, Emily Wheeler, 18, of Worland was northbound in a black Volvo. DeVries said Wheeler pulled to the right to make a u-turn and go southbound.

“She did not check for traffic,” DeVries said.

A semi tractor-trailer, driven by Cody Turman of Utah, was also heading northbound. DeVries Turman attempted to swerve to the left to avoid the Volvo but “t-boned” the Volvo, missing the driver’s side door by a couple of inches.

The Volvo ended up in the borrow ditch and the engine sheared some of the power lines, knocking out power.

Rocky Mountain Power had crews on scene shortly after the crash.

Devries said Wheeler was checked for injuries at Washakie Medical Center and released.

Wheeler was cited for unsafe u-turn and failing to use a seat belt.

There were no injuries and no improper driving from Turman, DeVries said.

Turman was able to steer the semi back to the northbound lane.

Traffic was down to one-lane right at the scene of the crash with Worland volunteer firefighters and Wyoming Department of Transportation personnel providing traffic control.
