WORLAND — A Worland woman was life-flighted with critical injuries following a one-vehicle crash Sunday night in Wind River Canyon.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper James Weck, a 38-year-old Worland man, driving a Ford F150 pickup northbound on U.S. Highway 20, was passing another vehicle northbound. Weck said there was a vehicle coming in the southbound lane. The driver of the Ford “aggressively veered” to the right after passing the vehicle in the northbound lane to get back into the north lane.

Weck said the driver went too far and caught dirt on the shoulder of the road, overcorrected, then overcorrected again, hitting the guardrail and rolling the vehicle.

The Ford pickup was the only vehicle involved in the crash that occurred just before 6 p.m. Sunday evening, north of Boysen Reservoir dam at mile marker 115.

He said the driver had minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence. Weck declined to release the name until charges are formally filed.

The 41-year-old female passenger sustained critical injuries and was the passenger that was life-flighted to a Billings hospital.

A 43-year-old male passenger was treated and released at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis. An 11-year-old male passenger was uninjured.

U.S. 20 was closed for two hours due to the crash.

Weck said he is continuing to compile all the information collected at the scene from other officers who responded to the scene.

According to Fremont County Circuit Court, Richard Alonzo of Worland appeared in court Monday for felony driving under the influence. Bond was set at $2,500 cash. A preliminary hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m. on July 11.
