WORLAND — Evelyn Maxine Wells, 79, died on Monday, May 12 at her home in Worland following a battle with cancer.
She was born on Nov. 8, 1928 in Cambridge, Ohio a daughter of Frank Columbus and Stella Mae (Kirkman) Williams. She lived in Ohio until she was nine years old, and then moved with her family to Riverside, Calif. where she completed her schooling.
She married Elden Matthew Wells on Dec. 22, 1945 in Riverside.
They moved to Elden’s hometown of Ten Sleep shortly after their marriage. The couple then built and operated a gasoline station, repair shop and wrecker service on the east end of Main Street in Ten Sleep for 40 years.
Maxine spent a little time each winter in California visiting her sister and family.
The rest of the year in Ten Sleep was spent helping the V.F.W. Auxiliary, tending her flower gardens, going to yard sales, traveling and visiting with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elden on Feb. 7, 1999; by her parents; and her brothers Jack, George, Bobby and Freddy Williams.
Maxine is survived by her sons, James D. (Marva) Wells of Worland, Ronald (Linda) Wells of Grand Junction, Colo. and Marvin (Mary) Wells of Oregon. She also is survived by 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Norma (Richard) Jamison of Lancaster, Calif.; and by numerous nephews and nieces.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. at the Ten Sleep Cemetery in Ten Sleep.
