McGarvin-Moberly received the award at the Wyoming Contractors Association Banquet in Jackson Wednesday evening.

WORLAND – McGarvin-Moberly of Worland received the Wyoming Contractor of the Year award Dec. 9 during the Wyoming Contractors Association convention in Jackson.

Wyoming Contractors Association Executive Director Katie Legerski said, "This award honors a contractor or member company who has demonstrated exceptional skill, integrity and leadership and has devoted extraordinary time and resources for the betterment of his or her peers, the construction industry, WCA and the AGC (Associated General Contractors) of America."

McGarvin-Moberly President Philip Caines said, "It's great, in our trade association it's probably one of the highest honors. I think it's a tribute to the quality of work that our company puts out and the quality people who work for us. I am very honored."

During the award ceremony, the WCA explained why McGarvin-Moberly received this prestigious award, "The company started as a small parking lot paving and gravel crushing contractor in 1963, based in the Big Horn Basin. Growing steadily over the years, they entered the WYDOT highway asphalt paving market in the late 1960s and over the past four decades, McGarvin-Moberly Construction Company has been able to increase its productivity and efficiencies, and thus sharpen their competitive advantage in the asphalt paving market.

"The success of the company can be found in their exceptional skill, integrity and pride in their operations and their desire to continually explore new markets for their services. Their success is also clearly due to the commitment of the current Board of Directors – President Philip Caines, Executive Vice President Gary Bertsch, Secretary/Vice President Ernie Skretteberg and Partner Kevin Craft.

"These men have a management style that has put their employees in a position to be successful. By entrusting employees to make decisions, an atmosphere has been created which leads to McGarvin-Moberly Construction Company's success and also personal success for their employees.

"Not only are these individuals dedicated to the success of their company, they are some of the Wyoming Contractors Association's most committed members and biggest cheerleaders. If the Association needs something done, you know these gentlemen will be the first ones there to lend a hand."

WYDOT Awards

The company also received the two smoothness awards from the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

WYDOT Public Relations Specialist Cody Beers said, "McGarvin-Moberly is a good contractor that we use all the time. We have a long working relationship with them. We value that partnership. They are one of the best in-state contractors that we have. They take a lot of pride in what they do and they do a great job."

WYDOT gives a smoothness award every year for two different categories. McGarvin-Moberly Vice President of Estimating Ernie Skretteberg said, "The first category is pavement with a plant mix wearing course, which is an ultra-thin layer of porous asphalt that is placed over the regular pavement section. Since it's porous it drains, so it's great for drainage and also the rock nature makes for good skid resistance. We received that award for the Rock Springs/ Rawlins project Wampsutter East section."

The second category is pavement without a chipseal. We received that award for the Worland/ Manderson project West River Road, he added

"The first category is much tougher to achieve because the criteria is much tougher. We are very proud of both awards because they are very hard to get. It's quite an honor to receive these awards," Skretteberg said.
