Storm closes schools, roads in Wyoming and Montana

Staff and AP reports - A wintry blast dropped a foot of snow in parts of Wyoming and Montana, closing schools and roads.

In Wyoming, the Natrona County School District closed all schools Tuesday because of the drifting and blowing snow and more snowfall in the forecast.

The Star-Tribune reports parts of Interstate 25 around Casper are closed, along with sections of I-80 between Rock Springs and Cheyenne.

In Montana, dozens of vehicle crashes were reported because of iced-over roads across the state, including a rollover accident on I-94 in Yellowstone County that killed a 26-year-old man.

The Billings Gazette reports schools in the state's largest city will have a snow day Tuesday for the first time in more than 25 years.

According to the National Weather Service, Worland received three to four inches in the storm through 7 a.m. Tuesday. Thermopolis received 8 to 11 inches through 7 a.m. Tuesday. Thermopolis was getting additional snow Tuesday morning.

Big Horn County areas received as small as a trace to as much as one to three inches, according to the NWS office in Riverton.

Observers report snowfall in 24-hour periods for the NWS, from 7 a.m. to 7 a.m.
