Worland Zion Lutheran Church expanding

Monday afternoon, Worland Zion Lutheran Church building committee chairman Dan Scheuerman stands beside the floor plans for the 7,000 square ft extension that the church will start building no later than April of this year.
WORLAND – Members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Worland voted unanimously Sunday to start building an extension to their existing building that will add 7,000 square feet and cost the church $670,000.
This project has been in the works for many years and now they are ready to put things into motion. "The project is called the called the ZEST (Zion, Expanding, Serving, Teaching) project," Zion Lutheran Church Pastor Ralph Partelow said.
All money for the project has been raised by the congregation. "We voted six years ago to raise the money for this project," Zion Lutheran Church Consistory (church board) President Dave Miller said.
"We decided that we would only build when we had raised the money, no borrowed funds," Zion Lutheran Church Building committee chairman Dave Scheuerman added.
"Our church has no debts. All the money was raised during the recession and never affected the annual budget," Partelow added.
The new addition will have two floors. The top floor will house a classroom, a multipurpose room with stage and storage area. "The top floor will expand our youth area," Scheuerman said. "It will also give us more room for VBS (vacation Bible school). Our VBS has gotten quite large and we need the extra space," Partelow added.
The ground floor will have a classroom and extend the fellowship hall. "Extending the fellowship hall will give us room for 232 seats instead of the 150 seats we have now," Partelow said.
The addition will also have an elevator for the elderly and handicapped access.
The church is not sure exactly when the construction will begin but know that it will be soon. "By April for sure but it might be before then," Scheuerman said.
