Lady Warriors gear up for the Pinnacle Challengers Cup

April 15, 2016

WORLAND- Worland will be hosting the Pinnacle Challengers Cup Girls Soccer Tournament today and tomorrow with games taking place at the East and West High School Fields, Middle School Field and the Worland Community Center Field.

Along with Worland the teams participating in the Challengers Cup are two Jackson teams, Buffalo, Evanston, Powell, Lander, Pinedale, Green River, Douglas, Newcastle, Torrington, Star Valley, Rawlins, Cody and Rock Springs.

The winner will be determined by a 16-team bracket. All of today's matches will be shortened to 30-minute halves and for Saturday there will be full contest with 40-minute halves. There will be no overtime both days and any tie will be decided by a best-of-five shootout, and if there's still a tie in the first shootout, a sudden death shootout will take place to decide the winner.

According to Wyopreps.com the Lady Warriors are currently the No. 1 ranked team in 3A and Jackson is No. 2. Being placed on opposite ends of the bracket, if each team takes care of business it would setup an exciting showdown between the state's top 3A teams for the championship match of the Pinnacle Cup at 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

First though the Lady Warriors will need to turn their attention toward Newcastle at 2:30 p.m. today on the West High School Field. If Worland wins they will move on to the quarterfinals in a 5:30 p.m. matchup against the winner of Torrington/Jackson JV. If they lose they'll play at 5:30 p.m. at the Worland Community Center against the loser of Torrington/Jackson JV.

When asked for the team's approach this weekend, coach Danielle Warren said, "We're going to take it one game at a time. Everyone that suits up will play, there's a lot of games over a short period of time and we want to make sure everyone is fresh."
