Warriors and Lady Warriors fall to Cody

May 11, 2016

CODY- The Lady Warriors lost to Northwest quadrant rival Cody Tuesday night 6-2.

"Cody outhustled us today, they were very disciplined on defense and offense and kept punishing us on our mistakes. They played a great game and deserved the win," said coach Danielle Warren.

The Lady Fillies jumped on the Lady Warriors by taking a 2-1 lead into halftime and out of the break scored another goal to make it 3-1. A goal by junior Hannah Ozmon in the 61st minute gave Worland a boost as they looked to get back into the match. But on senior night for Cody the Lady Fillies quickly shut the door on any comeback attempt from Worland as they scored the matches next three goals.

Worland's other goal was scored by sophomore Casey Wassum.

With one more match left in the regular season coach Warren said her team needs to pick themselves up and move forward, "We need to shake it off, there were a lot of reasons why we lost, we need to learn from that and move forward," said coach Warren.

The loss puts Worland and Cody into a tie for first place and with the conference records tied the next tiebreaker will be common non-divisional opponents. So depending on how Cody fairs against Star Valley and Jackson this weekend, the Lady Warriors still have a shot at clinching the No. 1 seed in the state tournament in Sheridan May 26-28.

Next for the Lady Warriors will be the final match of the regular season at Douglas on Monday, May 16.

Warriors

The Warriors lost 2-1 in overtime to the Broncs in Cody Tuesday night.

Cody would strike first going up 1-0 but Worland would answer quickly with a goal from Kyle Lamb in the 26th minute. For the remainder of regulation the Warriors would have their chances at getting the matches deciding goal but couldn't get the ball in the back of the net.

"Cody's keeper won the game for them and made some impressive saves and really frustrated our guys," said coach Ron Overcast. "Now we just need to get back to work, keep working hard and stay focused with a positive mindset."

The loss by the Warriors means the Cody Broncs win the Northwest Quadrant and secure a No. 1 seed at the state tournament in Sheridan.

As for Worland they will now have to compete in the 3A regional play-in game, in Worland, in order to make the state tournament.

The Warriors will now have to turn their focus toward their final match of the regular season has they host Douglas on Monday, May 16.
