WORLAND – The Gorgeous Gals Gala, put on by the Business and Professional Women, is Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Worland Community Center Complex. The gala is an Octoberfest-themed dinner and super-secret-heroes-themed show to benefit local men and women with cancer.

The Gorgeous Gals began as group of breast cancer survivors. “The Gorgeous Gals started out 22 years ago and we were all breast cancer survivors. Now we’ve opened that up to any female cancer survivor is a gorgeous gal. Our whole purpose is to show people that there is laughter after cancer, to not make light of it, but to understand that life goes on and that there is a lot to smile about,” Worland Business and Professional Women president and Gorgeous Gal member Meg Stark said.

Money from the event will benefit men and women with cancer in a variety of ways. “The money goes to buying gas cards which are left in Cody at the Cancer Center for people that don’t have money for gas. We do the Coping magazine which you can find at the doctors office and hospital. We provide wigs. If you need companionship or someone to be with you when you have your chemo, we do things like that. We have helped at the hospital by buying comfortable chairs for when you get your chemo, we have decorated the two chemo rooms and we hope to participate in the new construction of the hospital and help to decorate the chemo rooms there. We’ve provided at lot of things over the years for the X-ray department for mammograms and so forth,” Stark said. “The money also goes for the high school scholarship and the scholarship that is given to a woman who wants to further her education; we give a $1,000 to each of those once a year,” she added.

Cindy Strickler is in charge of the gourmet menu this year which is filled with German food. Appetizers include shrimp, caramelized onion pretzel rolls, caraway salt and beer cheese stuffed mushrooms and kielbasa crostinis. The main meal includes Cindy Strickler’s famous cabbage burgers, bratwurst stewed with sauerkraut, beer braised brisket, pork schnitzel with jagerschnitzel sauce and grilled chicken basted with a German sauce. A variety of potato and noodle dishes, along with numerous salads will accompany the main meal. There will be four different chocolate desserts, lemon cake, apple cake and mini pumpkin pies, Stark stated.

Beer and wine will be available at the event. “We have wine provided by Gallo wines and Admiral Beverage is furnishing the beer,” Stark said.

The super-secret heroes show starts after the dinner.

Event goers will be able to purchase raffle tickets for items such as a Jim Yule print, Swarovski jewelry, art pieces and a Crossley music box. There will also be a lot of door prizes given away.

Tickets need to be purchased before the event. “Doors open at 6 p.m. No tickets can be bought at the door; the tickets have to be purchased ahead of time. Anyone interested in tickets can call Meg Stark at 347-3845, Wendy Sweeny at 347-2979 or Sarah Radabaugh at 347-3500,” Stark stated.
