The Lady Warriors celebrate after a big play against Rawlins Friday night at Worland gymnasium.

WORLAND - The Rawlins Lady Outlaws pushed the Lady Warriors at home Friday night but Worland dug deep and willed their way to a 3-1 match win.

WHS volleyball coach Brittany Miller said Rawlins would be a scrappy team and the Lady Outlaws lived up to that billing as they made Worland work for each point. Players on both teams were diving, stretching and hustling to make a play on each ball all night.

In game one the Lady Warriors started out on a 5-0 run then kept the Lady Outlaws at a comfortable distance as they won 25-17. Not wanting to go down two games to none, Rawlins came out swinging in game two and was at one point up 16-9 over Worland.

Each time the Lady Warriors would come close to running points together the Lady Outlaws squashed the building momentum, eventually clinching game two by a score of 25-21.

Game three saw each team trading points until Worland put together a strong series of runs to take the game 25-15 and go up 2-1 for the match.

With their backs against the wall Rawlins would not go quietly as they fought their way back into the game, taking a 19-18 lead after being down 18-12. A timeout by coach Miller allowed her team to regroup and out of the break retake the lead on their way to a 25-23 match-clinching win.

After the match coach Miller spoke about the adjustments her team made that led to Friday night's win. "We pulled off to a single block so that way our front row could cover more tips and the back row could cover more of the deep corner shots. So that was our biggest adjustment that led to us covering more ground," said Miller.

Today the Lady Warriors close out their back-to-back-to-back weekend in Buffalo against the No. 2 ranked Lady Bison at 2 p.m. and Miller is expecting a hard fought match. "Buffalo is a solid team and they have really strong hitters, we will need to play our best volleyball against them," she said.
