David Cameron Taylor, 76 passed away on November 24, 2016 in Buffalo at the Suzi Lawrence Bowling Hospice after a home stay with cancer. His wife of 52 years, was at his side at the time of his passing.
Cameron was born on February 28, 1940 the second son of Robert Fulton Taylor, and Beryl Aloise (Hanner) Taylor. He was raised on the family ranch in Ten Sleep and had an idyllic childhood playing, working, and roaming the red hills. When his father died unexpectedly at the age of 49, Cameron quit college to return and take over the management of Taylor Brothers Livestock. He was 19 at the time, and running the ranch became his life for the next 30 years.
In November of 1964 he married Pamela Jean Wendt in Worland Wyoming. Together they had four children, Cameron Todd (deceased), Coebie Ann (Steve Logan), Cory F (Heather) and Courtney Lea (Brandon Schartz) The children were raised on the ranch, and though tragedy claimed Todd's life in a tractor accident in 1969, Cameron received his greatest joy watching his kids grow. He followed their activities in sports, 4-H, and supervised their work on the ranch. When his children started lives and families of their own, his pride in their accomplishments was very apparent. He had a great love and appreciation for his childrens' spouses. As grandchildren came along, he found great joy in spending time with them and took many trips to visit them in Casper, Pinedale, and California.
Cameron's life was filled with fast cars, wild horses, and many adventures. He travelled between Worland and Ten Sleep at high rates of speed in numerous 'hot' cars, and many backseat riders held on for dear life. His Brubaker cousins were like siblings to him, and joined him in various exploits. Anyone who knew him, has a story to tell! He helped many who were down on their luck, disenfranchised, or in need of a place to stay or a handout. His life on the ranch turned him into a master stockman, and he spent much time on the mountain supplying herders, or checking cows. Many nights were spent looking at Rome Hill by those of us left at home. A tell-tale cloud of dust, or plume of smoke told us he was on his way (after taking a sage brush removal program into his own hands!) Never one for rules and regulations, he found himself at odds with the BLM on more than one occasion over such independent antics! An economic downturn, and other factors forced the sale of the ranch in 1989 and Cameron was thrust into a new life which he accepted without complaint. The family moved into a house south of Ten Sleep and started over. He drove truck and worked various jobs for the next 26 years until ill health opened another chapter. Although not strong enough to do physical work, he made many visits in his 'touring car' chauffeured by Harry Sudnagis, and had coffee and visits with Mary Margaret almost daily.
During his final months he was lovingly cared for by his wife Pam and others who were fortunate to live close enough to assist. He had many visitors and offers of help during this time.
Cameron is survived by his wife Pam, his daughter Coebie (Steve) Logan of Casper and their sons, Turner, Ashur, and Emmerson; his son Cory Taylor (Heather) of Los Angeles, and their daughters Silas and Elzie, and his daughter Courtney (Brandon) Schartz of Pinedale, and their children Finton, Kaya, and Ayla. He is also survived by his sisters Mikell Pearce, Robin (Jim) McKim, and Terry (Steve)Trombley, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Fulton Taylor, his mother Beryl Aloise Hanner, an infant brother, Robert Charles Taylor, and his son Cameron Todd Taylor.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Worland with Bishop Chad Fox officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
