Raymond Eugene Sharp, 85, passed away on January 30, 2017 after a 6-year battle with cancer.
Ray was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 29, 1931 to Royal Leon and Ethyl Estella (Kaylor) Sharp. The family moved to Riverton when he was a young child. They then relocated to Greybull where he received his formal education. He worked at Triangle Packing for a short time. He married Jeanie Marie Barnhart on September 2, 1951. The couple made their home in Worland until on Valentine's day, 1952, when he was inducted into the United States Army to serve during the Korean Conflict. To this union 5 children were born, Carol, Susan, Butch, Michael and Mary.
After returning from the war, Ray went to work as a manager for the KOA Campground in Worland for about 10 years. Then he went to work for the Wyoming Boys School for the next 20 years. His duties were varied, but he mostly enjoyed being a security officer. Following his retirement, he became a Campground Host in the Big Horn Mountains. He worked in campgrounds all over the area. Just a few months prior to his death he went to the care center because of ill health.
He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing or anything that would take him to his beloved mountains. At home he loved to tinker with cars, fixing what he could. He also enjoyed doing yardwork and playing Bingo at the Care Center with many friends.
For 65 years Ray has been the foundation of the family and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael, brother, Royal, granddaughter, Roxanne and grandson, Andrew.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie of 65 years, children, Carol (Herbert) Neufer of Worland, Susan (Rick) Kirby of Houma, Louisiana, Butch Sharp of Prescott, Arizona, Mary Sharp of Casper, WY; grandchildren: Mathew Sharp (Dawn Fraser), Sarah Kirby, Chenoaha Kirby, Adam Kirby, Jerome (Meghan) Sharp, Raymond Sharp, Jeanie Sharp, Ambrosia (Clint) Vidrine; Mike Sharp, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
As per his request, there will be no formal services. A private family inurnment will take place in the Spring.
