WORLAND – Sunday, toward the end of the 10:30 a.m. worship service, the Worland Zion Lutheran Church will be dedicating the new addition to the building at 1,500 Circle Road. After the dedication there will be an open house and reception with tours from noon- 2 p.m.

"We will be dedicating the new addition to the Lord's service about 15 minutes before the end of the worship service," Zion Lutheran Church Lead Pastor Ralph Partelow said.

The addition took almost a year to build and cost the church $750,000. The addition gives the church an additional 7,000 square feet for a total of 30,000 square feet.

Zion Lutheran Church Consistory (church board) President Dave Miller said it took the congregation six years to raise the money and that the congregation really stepped up the last year raising $150,000.

"We decided that we would only build when we had raised the money, no borrowed funds," Zion Lutheran Church Building committee chairman Dave Scheuerman said in an earlier interview.

The addition is two floors with two sets of stairs and an elevator leading to the second floor. Scheuerman stated that the elevator will make sure that everybody in the congregation has access to all of the church.

The first floor of the addition houses the church library and the Fellowship Hall which will seat 300-plus people and be used for get-togethers, dinners, VBS (Vacation Bible School) and other gatherings and a new office for the assistant pastor.

The second floor houses the upper room which can be used for concerts, movies and seminars. There is also a conference room, a young adults room and a large storage area on the second floor.

Most of the work on the addition was done by local businesses and or congregation members. Zion Lutheran Church project manager Mark McGarvin stated that the plumber, two electricians and the carpet layer were members of the congregation. "We had to get someone from out of town to do the fire suppression system for the entire church and the elevator," he said.

The addition gives the church all the room that it needs to meet the needs of its growing congregation and the only projects foreseen in the future is to renovate the kitchen and bathrooms. "This completes the church," Partelow stated.
