TEN SLEEP - If there were a pound for pound championship in Wyoming High School track the Ten Sleep Lady Pioneers would be a contender. The Lady Pioneers have seven athletes out this season and what they lack in numbers they more than make up for in talent.

Last week the Lady Pioneers competed in the Riverton Twilight, Worland Triangular and Lovell Invitational and impressed at each meet. Specifically in Riverton where the team placed second and scored 88 points competing mostly against 3A and 2A opponents.

The Lady Pioneer success this season may come as a shock to others but for the team it is what they have come to expect as they march toward their season goal of placing at the 1A state meet in Casper.

"It might sound bad but I think this year with the expectations it's something they believe will happen," said TSHS track coach Desiree Egger. "Allison [Hampton] has been winning triple jumps but it's nice to go against the 3A schools and do well like that."

As their coach Egger has been excited to see the team perform like they have and recognition it is bringing to the school and program.

"It is shocking for a team our size to compete like we have but also it's a great thing for our school. Ten Sleep has had some rough basketball, volleyball and football seasons but to finally put Ten Sleep on the map is exciting. The girls are definitely turning heads with their performances," said Egger.

Seniors Allison Hampton and Felicity Loveland have provided the senior leadership while underclassman Lexie Boltz and sisters Kelli and Sydney Holiday have competed beyond their years.

It's the internal competition the keeps the Lady Pioneer as strong as they are.

"It's all them. They're self-driven and they're so competitive with each other. They see the potential and we talk about it enough and how we're going to stack up against Cokeville. So internally they are already super competitive and that's what makes them so good and why they're so special," said Egger.

Only freshman Sydney Holiday has taken the season by storm. Holiday ran a 12.2 in the 100-meter dash at the Riverton Twilight, breaking the 17-year-old Ten Sleep High School record in the process. If that was not impressive enough Holiday has the fastest 100 in the entire state in all classes.

Lovell

At the Lovell Invitational the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers made positive strides again. Three Pioneers set personal records.

"We did pretty good. For our boys we had three PRs (personal records), Devon Bedtka improve by three feet and Zane Taylor in the discus by three feet also. So we were happy with both of those. Zayne Cooper also PRed in the triple jump and that's been a new event for him.

While the Lady Pioneers continued their roll and even ran the 4x100 relay for the first team and came within a second of the school record.

"We also ran the 4x100 for the first time. We took first and almost broke the school record even with a terrible handoff but that was still fun for us. Overall it was another competitive and just good weekend for us," said Egger.

This week Ten Sleep track will head to Buffalo on Thursday and Friday to the Wyoming Track Classic, provided the weather cooperates.

The Classic is the annual meet where the best in each event, regardless of class, compete for bragging rights. The Lady Pioneers will be sending three of their athletes to compete, Allison Hampton (triple jump), Kelli Holiday (400, 300 hurdles, 800, 1,600) and Sydney Holiday (100, 200, 100 hurdles).

"The last couple years we've always had somebody go but I think to bring three is incredible. We don't just have one standout we have three and for a team that only has seven girls it's pretty outstanding. For one of them to be the leader, Sydney [Holiday], in the state is terrific as well. It's nice and brings attention to our school and there will be people looking for them," said Egger.
