It is fair time in the Big Horn Basin. Park County is wrapping up its fair week and the rest of the Big Horn Basin is gearing up for a full week of fair fun with Washakie County, Big Horn County and Hot Springs County all scheduling their fairs this week.

Washakie County has already had plenty of fair judging with the shooting sports, fabric and fashion judging and the horse show this past week. The bulk of fair judging and festivities is this week.

While it is true that much of the fair in our three small counties in the Basin are geared toward the 4-H and FFA members showing their projects and having their projects judged, fair organizers have worked to try and provide something for everyone.

The entertainment kicks off tonight in Worland with the tractor pull, followed Monday with the pig wrestling (also featured at the other two fairs).

Both Washakie and Big Horn County fairs have rodeos and both have parades next Saturday.

Hot Springs County has a family fun night and a chili cookoff.

There is a variety of food booths at the Washakie and Big Horn County fairs as well.

There is plenty of music with four concerts at Washakie County and free stage acts at Big Horn County for your listening pleasure.

And, of course, there are plenty of animal shows, from the smallest of critters with the pocket pet show at Hot Springs County, to the largest — the steers at the beef shows at all three fairs.

The Junior Livestock Sales are the culminating events at the fairs. This is where the youth are rewarded for their hard work when people bid on their animals and you have the opportunity to not only support the youth but take home some good, local beef, lamb or pork.

There is a variety of fun around the Big Horn Basin next week, fun for all ages and for all interests, and plenty of opportunity to support our youth in our communities.
