Public health, cross-country coach team up for healthy, colorful run

WORLAND — Washakie County Public Health is teaming up with the Worland middle school and high school cross-country teams for a healthy but fun run Next Tuesday night.

Worland cross-country coach Tanya Kienlen said, “I teamed up with Amanda Heinemeyer, Washakie County Public Health nurse manager.

Heinemeyer said the funding for the event came from the Maternal Child Health Grant and on of the goals I to reduce childhood obesity.

“I like to look at fun ways for children to exercise and this was one way that was fun and appealing and that the whole family could participate,” she said. 

Keinlen added, “We will be setting up to a fun course around the high school with hoola hoops, climbing wall, color powder, sprinklers, and other fun obstacles.”

The event, designed to promote healthiness, is also a fundraiser for the Worland Middle School and High School cross-country runners.

The healthy fun run begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the race gun will start at 6:30 p.m. at Warrior Stadium.

The race is open for runners of all levels and all ages with options of one or two miles.

“We encourage families to wear white as they will be covered in color,” Kienlen said.

The cost is $10 a person or $25 for the whole family.
