Members sought for City of Worland Tree Board

WORLAND — The City of Worland is seeking three residents to join the Worland City Tree Board.

Worland Mayor Jim Gill said he is recruiting members for the board that works with the Washakie County Conservation District, the Worland Garden Club and the State Foresters Office on many important educational events.

He said one of the most popular programs the board helps coordinate is the annual Arbor Day celebration at the Worland Community Center. During the program Worland third graders receive a free tree to plan in their yard.

“Our Tree City USA status is one of our special community endeavors,” Gill said. “It is made possible by the board’s efforts to maintain the tree standards required by the State Foresters Office.” He added that board members in the past have been especially good about planting various trees in all of our parks around Worland.

In order to maintain the Tree City USA status, three more board members are needed to serve on the volunteer five-member board.

Current members are Herb Emmett and Ron Conner. Terms are for three years.

Anyone interested in serving is asked to contact Gill at Worland City Hall at 347-2486.
