WORLAND — Plans are underway to establish a Worland High School Hall of Fame.

Washakie County School District No. 1 Superintendent David Nicholas told the board of trustees at Monday’s regular meeting that he hoped to have a formal plan to present to them at the January meeting and would be seeking input from each board member throughout the next month.

In an interview Tuesday, Nicholas said, “In November at our school board retreat we started a conversation about this. It was a consensus of the group that we needed a way to recognize all of the talent and contributions and success of alumnus and staff. A Hall of Fame would do that. It wouldn’t just be a athletic hall of fame. It would be contributions from a person’s career or chosen path, it could be a student who was a great athlete. It could be a staff member who contributed. It could be a lot of different reasons people would nominate for a Worland person to be in this hall of fame.”

Nicholas said they need to develop a way for people to nominate potential inductees. After the formal plan is

adopted in January they will open up the nominations.

The district will also need to form a selection committee.

“We need to set some guidelines,” Nicholas said, including number of inductees for the first year, and each year after.

He said the hall of fame ceremony for the inductees would occur during homecoming week each year and inductees will be honored at a banquet. Photos of inductees will be on display at the Worland High School.

Nicholas said, “I think this is a way to recognize [accomplishments of students and staff]. It’s a neat piece for our kids who are attending now that they can see where people have gone and what they have done. And that, that can happen right here from Worland.”
