Cody man dies in crash near Greybull

GREYBULL — A 28-year-old Cody resident died in a two-vehicle crash on Monday.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, on Monday, Jan. 22, a fatal crash occurred at milepost 16 on US 14 near Greybull.

At 3:28 p.m., Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers were dispatched to the area for a two-vehicle collision.

According to the WHP report, a 1999 Kenworth semi truck and trailer pulled into a closed business to make a U-turn. The driver of the semi truck could not pull his vehicle all the way through the lot because of snow in the parking lot. The driver decided to back his combination unit out of the parking lot and onto US 14. The driver had a passenger with him, who got out to flag traffic. The combination unit had completed backing out of the parking lot, and the passenger got back into the vehicle and began to pull away westbound on US 14.

A 1998 GMC pickup, driven by 28-year-old Cody resident Simon Augedahl, was westbound on US 14. The GMC pickup rear-ended the combination unit in the westbound lane. The driver of the GMC sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.

Augedahl was not wearing a seat belt.

This crash resulted in the second highway fatality in Wyoming for 2018 compared to two fatalities in 2017, three in 2016, and seven in 2015 during this same time period.

There are no criminal charges pending.
