RIVERTON (WNE) — The Riverton Police Department is investigating the deaths of two men that took place over the weekend.

The RPD responded to assist an ambulance at about 12:25 a.m. Saturday on East Adams Avenue on a report made by a homeowner stating there was a male sitting on his front porch.

“Officers arrived to find the male in distress,” RPD chief Eric Murphy said in a press release.

It was unknown what the man was doing, the police report indicated.

After he was taken by ambulance to SageWest Health Care at Riverton, he was flown by air ambulance to Denver, where the 34-year-old male from Riverton passed away.

“The RPD is working the death as a suspicious death and is in the process of conducting interviewing and tracing his actions from that night,” Murphy said. “This is an ongoing case.”

A 52-year-old man from Riverton also passed away in Riverton over the weekend. Officers were called at about 9 a.m. Sunday the scene on North Federal Boulevard.

“From preliminary observations it appears that cold temperatures (were) a major cause of death at this point,” Murphy said.

The RPD will work both deaths as suspicious until autopsies prove otherwise, which is typical protocol, Murphy added.

Erin Ivie, chief deputy for the Fremont County Coroner’s office, confirmed that the autopsy for the second man was being performed Tuesday, and results will be available in four to six weeks. She stated there was “nothing outwardly suspicious” about the man’s death.
