Former Firenze restaurant manager sentenced for felony theft

WORLAND – The former manager of the now-closed Firenze restaurant and club in Worland was sentenced Wednesday on one felony charge of theft, and will serve five years on probation in lieu of 3-5 years in the state penitentiary, for missing revenue totaling up to $191,526.05 over a three-year period.

Martinez also agreed to restitution in the amount of $68,000.

Lance Carlo Martinez was arrested in May 2017 on four charges of theft, and after a plea bargain this year, had charges reduced to one count of theft over $1,000.

On May 26, 2017, County Attorney John P. Worrall filed multiple felony charges against Martinez with the Fifth District Circuit Court, including one count of taking unauthorized control of $36,365.69 from July 14 through December 2014; one count of taking unauthorized control of $63,713.99 from January 2015 through December 2015; one count of taking unauthorized control of $70,710.74 from January 2016 to December 2016 and one count of taking unauthorized control of $20,735.63 from January 2017 until April 2017, for a total of $191,526.05. Each felony would have been punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.

Martinez was originally released on released on a $150,000 signature bond.

After Wednesday’s sentence, Worrall remarked that the sentence was fair, although restitution must be paid, as a condition of probation.

“It gives him [Martinez] the opportunity to avoid prison if it’s paid off in five years,” said Worrall.
