CHEYENNE — Gov. Matt Mead authorized a Wyoming Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crew to provide medical evacuation, if needed, in support of the Badger Creek Fire, in Albany County.

Four personnel will be on standby for medical evacuation calls from the fire’s incident command team. The crew is on orders for seven days, but orders can be modified based on the needs of the incident commander.

“From fires to floods, The National Guard is a core part of our disaster response in Wyoming,” said Mead. “Over 250 people — from the U.S. Forest Service, state forestry, local firefighters, law enforcement and others — are working to battle this fire. It is good to have the UH-60 crew standing by to offer their assistance.”

Last summer UH-60 crews were activated to provide aerial firefighting support on the Keystone Fire, which was also located in the Medicine Bow National Forest.

As of June 13, the Badger Creek Fire, located south of Fox Park, was last recorded at 7,034 acres.
