  • Lawley's sponsored bill progresses

    Last Thursday, Martha Lawley (R-Worland) presented her sponsored house Bill 121 to the House Revenue Committee. The bill would make amendments to the property tax deferral program, by raising the responsibility of property tax deferment out of the counties to the Department of Revenue. “To date, only one county uses it. Every other county in Wyoming, in effect, doesn’t have the opportunity for a deferment of taxes under this statute. I’m amending it to try to address that, and a few other issues,” Lawley said.     Florence Marie Nelsen, 98, passed away January 30, 2023 at Washakie Medical Center. She was born August 13, 1924 to Mike and Teresa (Morath) Hoffman on the family farm south of White Lake, SD. She attended school at the Kluthe School south of White Lake. Florence graduated from High School in 1943 from White Lake.     James Douglas "Doug" Smith, 83, of Ten Sleep, Wyoming, passed away on January 29, 2023, at Worland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Doug was born in Gillette, Wyoming on December 12, 1939, to James Burr and Margaret Thelma (Sorenson) Smith. He attended grade school in Arvada later graduating from Sheridan High School. Doug grew up surrounded by family and spent most of his time in the Big Horn Mountains with his Uncle Glen, working with horses.... Full story

    Duane Stuart Riedel, or Mr. Riedel as most of Worland knew him, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by those he loved, in Worland, Wyoming on January 21, 2023. He was 69 years old. Duane was born on April 14, 1953, in Madison, South Dakota, the third of six children born to Vernon Elmer and Doris Jean (Rollins) Riedel.     TEN SLEEP – The new warming hut in Ten Sleep opened on Jan. 28 and has completed the vision for the town’s park that Rachel Casteel of the Ten Sleep Recreational District set out to achieve years ago. The warming hut is a place to gather at the park while ice skating, offering warmth and a place to relax in between skating sessions.
