    WORLAND – University of Wyoming Extension Offices around the state will be holding their third annual UW Signing Day Wednesday, May 1. The UW Signing Day in Washakie County will celebrate with students from Worland and Ten Sleep.   • Soldiers prepare for deployment

    WORLAND — At least 14 soldiers from the Big Horn Basin will be deployed this spring and summer with the Wyoming Army National Guard. According to Deidre Forster, public affairs director for the Wyoming Military Department, “We are tracking at least 14 soldiers deploying from Thermopolis, Worland, Lovell, Powell and Greybull. The majority will be deploying with the 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery in May.     This year the Wyoming Army National Guard will deploy about 300 soldiers in operations across the world, the largest deployment in 10 years. According to the WANG, it’s been almost a decade since Wyoming sent about 700 soldiers overseas. The brigade-sized element was augmented by guardsmen from five other states, most of whom performed non-routine jobs such as convoy support into Iraq, or mayor cell duties on the various military bases in Kuwait.     WORLAND – The trial of former Worland man, Jason Arnold Miller, started Monday, April 22. Miller, who pleaded not guilty in November in Washakie County Fifth Judicial District Court, is facing four counts of first degree sexual abuse of a minor. The alleged abuse occurred from August of 2014 until September of 2016. Miller could be facing up to 200 years in prison, as each count has a minimum of 25 years and a maximum of 50 years in prison. New Hope Humane Society in Worland provides an opportunity for people in the Washakie County area to adopt a pet and give a rescued animal a ‘fur’ever home.
