Cory Taylor partners with world-renowned architect

November 25, 2015

WORLAND – Wyoming native Cory Taylor has partnered with "world renowned" architect Hagy Belzberg of California. The two architects owned their own architectural businesses and over time found that their work styles complemented each other, thus a partnership was born.

"When my wife and I moved to LA (Los Angeles) in 2008 to start my own firm, it became obvious fairly quickly that the construction industry and in general the economy was failing, as well as any opportunities for a new architectural firm. Hagy Belzberg had a fairly well established firm with a few large projects in construction at the time that he needed help with. As our friendship and work load grew over the years it became clear that a partnership was developing with our complimentary skills and experience. The significance of the partnership I believe is simply the beginning, of a 'new chapter' if you will, of the growth and development of the firm. It will position us to grow and expand our specific design vision collectively," Taylor said.

Taylor grew up and graduated from high school in Ten Sleep. After high school he earned his Associate of Science at Northwest College in Powell. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont. And his Master of Science in advanced architectural design at Columbia University in New York City.

While he doesn't have any specific person as an influence to his success, he does attribute growing up in Ten Sleep as a large part. "I can't specifically attribute significant influence to any single person in my life ... however I do believe what has influenced me the most is my background and experience of being raised on a ranch near Ten Sleep. Living in NY and now in LA, my unique background has helped define and drive the way I create and design buildings," Taylor said.

Over the years Taylor has received awards for his unique architectural perspective for many different types of buildings. To name a few:

-1999 Denver Botanical Gardens Birdhouse Competition - honorable mention.

-2002 A.S.I.D. Colorado Design Award - Denver Firefighters Offices.

-2009 AIA/LA Restaurant Design Award Jury Award for lounge/night club.

-2013 The American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

-2015 International Jury Winner - A+Awards Office Low-Rise - 9800 Wilshire.

-2015 Interior Design Magazine: MakeIt WORK (Entire Project: Corporate / Financial Office) Winner - 9800 Wilshire.

-2015 Los Angeles Business Council: Award of Excellence - 9800 Wilshire.

At this point the partnership, Belzberg Architects Group, has no major plans for the future. "No specific plans for the future at this time, architecture and construction are a very volatile industry and we are constantly trying to negotiate the economic landscape. The plan is to remain in business, (and hopefully grow) and continue our success in design achievements," Taylor stated.

According to the belzbergarchitects.com site, "Belzberg Architects has been located in the City of Santa Monica since its inception in 1997. The firm has earned over 48 national and local design awards including over 20 from the American Institute of Architects. Their work has been featured in over 200 publications throughout more than 25 countries including frequent features in notable periodicals such as Architectural Record, Interior Design, and the New York Times."

Taylor has been married to his wife Heather for 17 years and they have two daughters, Silas, 6, and Elzie, 4.
