The Worland High School cheerleaders performed their state competition routine during halftime of a regional game in Glenrock last weekend. Performing are (l-r) Lilly O'Callaghan, Ashton Kittleman and Hallie Eaves.

WORLAND – The state cheerleading competition takes place today with schools from all around the state competing in a variety of different categories. The Worland High School cheerleading squad will be performing in the class 3A non- stunt category, which is considered a floor routine.

"We will have 10 girls performing at the State Cheerleading Competition," Worland High School cheerleading coach Tammy Montoya said. The girls performing are: Ashton Kittleman, Stormy Wruck, Hallie Eaves, Kensi Smith, Shiloh Winters, Saige Winters, Caedie Balaszi, Emma Edholm, Kendre Kidgell and Lilly O'Callaghan. Ashlee Light will also be attending as the squad's manager.

The squad has been working on their routine for months. "Before Christmas we began piecing it together and after Christmas break we found the right music to put it all together," Montoya said. "Our assistant coach, Noemi Sandoval, choreographed the routine," she added.

Sandoval is a former Worland High School cheerleader who brings with her experience and energy. "Last year Noemi asked if she could help with the cheerleading squad and I was glad to have her help. She helped out on her own time. This year we hired her to be the assistant coach," Montoya said.

The squad has high hopes of placing in the competition, where they will be competing against 15 other schools. "This year we have a more advanced routine compared to past routines. Noemi has the experience of competing in the competition so she has picked out things to do that will get the audience's attention and that's what the judges look for," Montoya said.

The Worland High School cheerleaders left for Casper this morning at around 6 a.m.
