WHS track team competes in Cody for last meet of season

May 6, 2016

CODY— The Worland High School track team was scheduled to compete today in Thermopolis but with the weather once again putting a damper on things, the team headed to Cody Thursday night for the last meet of the 2016 regular season.

“We wanted to take advantage of the good weather before that weather front came in. And it was also a chance for us to have more of the kids AQ (Automatic Qualifiers),” said coach Tracey Wiley on changing meets.

It was a good night for Worland at the Cody Trackstravaganza with Worland competing against Powell and host Cody. After coming so close all season the boys 4x100-meter relay team (Blaine Kroger, Andrew Cady, Cody Newell, Hayden Lambeth) broke through and AQ’ed with a time of 46.23, while also taking first place.

Other first-place finishers from yesterday were Chance Martello in the 1600-meter, Mauricio Caballero discus, Brad Lyman first in the high jump and Emmy Dykman first in the 200-meter

Coach Wiley was thrilled with her team’s performance, “It was a good day, kids were telling me all meet that they had set new PRs (personal records), which is good to see this time of year because it means as a team we’re hitting our stride.”

“The whole team has been great all year, I’m so proud of all the hard work they’ve put in this season. With regionals coming up and only being allowed to take so many kids it’s going to be tough making those decisions but that’s a testament to this group of kids and how well they’ve done this season,” said coach Wiley.

Also of note Martello AQ’ed in the 3200-meter at the Wyoming Classic Monday night

With the regular season in the books, Worland will now focus their efforts towards regionals in Buffalo on May 12-14, looking to add more athletes for the state meet in Casper on May 19-21.
