WORLAND- The Worland High School track team is headed to Buffalo today to compete in the 3A East Regional meet today and tomorrow.

Regionals will serve as the last chance for the Warriors and Lady Warriors who haven't automatically qualified to make the state meet next weekend in Casper.

Leading up to regionals the team's practices have been productive even as the weather tried to play spoiler.

"Monday and Tuesday we had to move inside, while it wasn't ideal the kids still worked hard and were focused," said coach Tracey Wiley.

In Buffalo, Worland is looking to have strong showings from both boys and girls teams, "Our boys team is represented in nearly every event and I'm looking forward to seeing what they're going to do over the weekend. Our girls team may not have the numbers like the boys but they're competitive athletes that can hang with anyone and they're going to perform well too," said coach Wiley.

With this meet possibly being the final one for some of the Worland athletes coach Wiley has loved the mindset and the preparation they've put in during practice this week.

"(Regionals) has a different atmosphere that requires a different mentality because you either do your best and move on to state or you slip up that's it, your season is over. That type of pressure can get to the kids leading up to the meet but our kids have been focused and relaxed in a good way.

"Our seniors have done an excellent job of setting the tone and leading the rest of the team. They've really shown the younger kids what it takes to be successful," said coach Wiley.

Emmy Dykman (100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m), Chance Martello (1600m, 3200m), Hoyt Nicholas (discus, shot put), Anna Lopez (100m, 200m, 4x100m long jump), Cody Newell (300m hurdles) Brad Lyman (high jump), Bryanna Mickelson (discus and shot put) and Allyson Klingler (800m, 1600m, 3200m) have consistently been some of the team's top performers all season.

There's also Andrew Cady (200m, shot put, 4x100m, 4x400m), Maclin Wiley (discus, shot put), Mariah Alcaraz (discus, shot put), Maurcio Caballero (discus, shot put), Stone Ramos (110m hurdles, long jump, high jump), Chassidi Garay (discus, shot put) who have also had excellent seasons.

"Our whole team has been incredible this season. Our older kids have gotten better with each meet and I've been impressed with how well the younger kids have done. They've all worked so hard and broke PR's (Personal record) all season long," said coach Wiley.

Coach Wiley added, "It's an exciting time of the year and everything has culminated to this meet. The kids have put in the hard work and now we just need to go over to Buffalo and get things done."

Regionals will get under way in Buffalo at 1 p.m. with boys long jump, girls triple jump, boys and girls discus, girls high jump and boys pole vault.
