Washakie Avenue corridor meeting Thursday
May 25, 2016
WORLAND – The City of Worland and Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) will hold a public open house at the Community Center Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. to review recommendations for the Washakie Avenue Corridor Study.
The study, launched in August of 2015, is intended to evaluate alternatives to improve safety on Washakie Avenue from Railway Avenue to County Road 11. Public input was solicited beginning in September of 2105, via comment form available on the WYDOT website. The suggestions were compiled into a draft report, which will be available for review at the Thursday open house.
The goals of the study, scheduled to be completed in July, include safely accommodating beet truck traffic along Washakie Avenue, examining pedestrian and bicycle safety, incorporating Sage Creek into the roadway cross section, identifying right-of-way limitations, drainage ditch evaluations, and contemplating further development to the south end of Worland.
Kevin McCoy, planning consultant for WYDOT, stressed that the plan will not culminate in immediate construction to Washakie Avenue, but will “identify potential options for either a rebuild or an alternate route, and give us [WYDOT] a preliminary cost estimate for any future project.”
McCoy and consultants for WYDOT will be on hand at Thursday’s open house to answer community questions and discuss the project.
Survey sheets for questions and recommendations are available at http://www.dowlhkm.com/Projects/washakie/index.html.
