Northwest College responding to Office of Civil Rights complaint

August 18, 2016

POWELL — Northwest College is responding to a complaint and information request from the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) alleging that the college discriminates on the basis of sex by not appropriately responding to complaints of sexual violence.

“The college has informed the OCR that it will thoroughly respond to the information request and will cooperate fully in the investigation,” NWC President Stefani Hicswa said. “College staff are collecting information requested by the OCR.”

“Investigation of a complaint by the Office of Civil Rights in no way implies that the OCR has made a determination with regard to its merits,” Hicswa explained. “During the investigation the OCR is a neutral fact finder, collecting and analyzing relevant evidence from the complainant, the recipient and other sources as appropriate.”
