Write-in candidate ready to serve

September 29, 2016

WORLAND – Mike Neufer is running for a seat on the Worland City Council, and the Ward 3 write-in candidate has the public’s support. Neufer received three write-in votes in the Aug. 16 primary election, enough to make him eligible as a candidate.

Neufer said he’s lived in Worland most of his life, and while he hasn’t been out going door-to-door campaigning; he’s received encouragement from the community, and ultimately, Worland residents helped him accept the nomination to run for council.

It was a surprise to find out he had been written in, but since then he said, “I had a lot of phone calls from people encouraging me to do it, and people coming up to me. I never had any intention of running, but people thought I’d make a good candidate wrote me in. I had a lot of supporters encouraging me and I had to throw my name in the hat,” Neufer said.

He hopes to bring level-headed decision making to council, and said he will use his knowledge of the city’s infrastructure to his advantage. Neufer worked for the City of Worland for seven years, first at the airport as a maintenance employee and then in the public works sector. He said he also brings water operations experience to the table.

“At first I thought no way, but after convincing and calls from other council members, I think it’s great that I’m running and (could) maybe get it,” Neufer said.
