Cathy Groshart puts the finishing touches on her pastel painting at the Worland Senior Center pastel art class Thursday.

WORLAND - Eighteen Worland area residents are enrolled in the pastel art class that has been offered for nearly a year at the Worland Senior Center.

Instructor Sherry Stottler said the class started last November and the class already has pieces on exhibit at ANB Bank in Worland. The pieces are on display through next month.

Stottler is excited to share her love of pastels with her students. She noted she's only been painting for about four years after taking a class at the Washakie Museum.

Students pay a nominal fee to the senior center for all the materials they will need, Stottler said.

This week four ladies were in attendance. Cathy Groshart said she began taking the class because pastels is something she hasn't tried before, having worked with oils and water colors in the past.

Joanie Seaman is one of the newest members and joined the class "just for fun," noting she is a recent retiree.

Stottler said students can join any time. The class is offered every Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m.

Jan Carlson and Annita Ankeny are friends of Stottler's and say that Sherry Stottler told them it was a good idea for them to come and try it. They did and they find that it is a lot of fun, they said.

Stottler said they use photos from ANB bank as inspiration for the art pieces in class but she has a bigger project planned in the coming months.

She wants to do a large wall mural with each student contributing a different portion to the mural. The project, she said, is still in the planning stages. The mural will hang in the hallway at the senior center.
