Keith Thurman

Keith Thurman passed away October 24, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; by his daughter Beverly (James) Campbell of North Las Vegas, NV and son, Robert Keith Thurman of Cheyenne, WY and 3 grandchildren, Michael, Monica and Manuela Campbell. He is also survived by all of his siblings - Delores (Dick) Weatherly, Duane (Joan) Thurman, Joan (Wes) Schubert-Dreher, and Ronald (Judy) Thurman and many nieces and nephews.

Keith was born to Jesse Lloy and Mabel Ione Thurman on June 2, 1927 on the family farm near Oconto, NE. He grew up on the family farm and attended elementary and high schools in Oconto, Curtis and Callaway, NE.

He arrived in the Ten Sleep area after high school graduation in 1947. He went to work for Ed and Lorie Mulherin and later worked for Roy Mills and then, for his future father in law, Rouse Anderson. He married Shirley Anderson June 3, 1948.

He went to work for the Worland office of the Soil Conservation Service in Ten Sleep in 1951 as a heavy equipment operator. He later worked for the SCS out of offices in Worland 1952 -1955) Lander (1955-1974) and Cheyenne (1974-1986) He retired as an engineering technician in 1986. Much of his engineering work can be seen in the farms and ranches through out the state of Wyoming. Keith also served as a Captain in the Wyoming National Army Guard in both Lander and Riverton, where he served as the battery commander for 11 years. He and Shirley retired in Ten Sleep and have lived there for the last 30 years.

He loved Wyoming and Ten Sleep in particular. He was active in community affairs and served as mayor of Ten Sleep for several years. He was a good neighbor and was always ready to lend a hand when needed. His passion was collecting hunting and competition rifles. He competed in the US Army National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio for many years. He eagerly awaited every hunting season until his health failed.

A memorial service will be held at the Ten Sleep United Methodist Church at 11:00am, Saturday, October 29 with Pastor Steve Brown officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ten Sleep Ambulance Service, care of P.O. Box 5, Ten Sleep, Wyoming, 82442.

Cremation has taken place and a portion of his ashes will be scattered at his favorite elk hunting spot.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Veile Mortuary.
