Participants of the first Pink WoD at Worland CrossFit on Oct. 15 get their workout in to help raise awareness and money to help those in their fight against cancer.

WORLAND - The Playing for Hope Foundation raised $6,500 for the month of October as part of their Pink Out events during multiple high school athletic competitions in that span.

"It was our first year organizing Pink Outs and it was totally successful," said Playing for Hope co-organizer Rosa Gonsalez. "It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Being at the games everyone was very receptive, giving and super thankful, it was a blast to be a part of something like this."

Playing for Hope is an official nonprofit, having obtained their 501(3)(c), that raises money and awareness for those diagnosed with cancer and looks to assist them in their fight against cancer.

Pink Outs were held at high school sporting events, from football to volleyball to cross-country, all through the Big Horn Basin. The event to raise the most money was the Greybull/Riverside volleyball match. "The Greybull/(Riverside) volleyball match was the biggest pink out. We were able to raise over $3,000 and it was so successful that we've been asked to return during basketball season," said Gonsalez.

Playing for Hope also held a Pink WoD (Workout of the day) at Worland CrossFit on Oct. 15. With a close to 50 people turnout, which included Chopper CrossFit owner Randall Homan bringing members from his gym, and the fun atmosphere, the Pink WoD will be turned into an annual event.

"We had three different workouts for the day," said Gonsalez. "It was a super fun day with everyone working out for the cause. There was a friendly environment and fun event that raised awareness; it's something we'll definitely continue doing going forward."

Next the foundation will be gearing up for their annual basketball tournament on Jan. 27-29 along with coordinating another round of Pink Outs for basketball season.

Gonsalez added, "If anyone needs assistance we're here. They don't need to be from Wyoming, if somebody needs help we're there to help them."
