Marjorie B. Lord

January 26, 2017

Marjorie B. Lord passed away on January 24, 2017, on a cold and snowy Wyoming morning, just a couple of weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Marj was born on February 9, 1922, to Frank and Russell Baker in Omaha, joining her older brothers Russ and Fred. Her father passed away when Marj was a young teen, leaving her with a longing that would last all her days.

During the war effort she would volunteer to bring hot coffee and doughnuts to the servicemen passing through Omaha on the train. She captured the hearts of two young soldiers, and married one of them, Robert Derrick. They moved to New Haven, Conn, and became the parents of twin girls, Marjorie (Mikie) and Elizabeth (Buffy). When the war ended the young family moved to Chicago, and eventually divorced. A few years later, on a blind date, she was reunited with the other soldier she had known. Fred Ruoff and Marj married and began their lives in Naperville, IL, adding three more children, Gretchen, Fredrick (Fritz) and William (Bill). They eventually divorced. On another blind date with a gentleman from Pittsburgh, she found her final love. Marj and Laurance Lord were married in 1972 and relocated to Pittsburgh for ten years before moving back to the Chicago area. They eventually retired to Las Cruces, NM, and enjoyed 15 years in the warm sunshine before Larry's passing in 2010. Marj then made her way to Worland where she was lovingly cared for by her family and the staff of both the Beehive Homes and Worland Healthcare.

Marj will be remembered for her dry and sarcastic wit that could bring both pleasure and pain, depending on its direction, her exquisite embroidery, her love of blind dates, and her spunk.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, her husbands, her nephew, two stepsons and many friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mikie (Rand) Thompson, Woodstock, IL; Buffy Derrick and Gretchen Ruoff of Worland; Fritz (Lisa) Lord, Sequim, WA; Bill Ruoff, Rock Springs, WY; and stepson Chris (Mary) Lord, Rock Springs. She is also survived by grandchildren Vicky, Kristy, Katie, Elizabeth, and Austyn; Amber, Ivy, Meghan and Courtney; and great-grandchildren Alex, Ryan, Maddie and Frankee B; and a special niece Lenny (John) Ramsey, Des Moines. No services are planned.

What a long and winding road you have travelled. We love you! Peace out Mumsy!

Cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned at this time. Online condolences may be made at http://www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
