Wyoming Senate defeats campus carry bill

CHEYENNE (AP) — The Wyoming Senate has defeated a bill that would have allowed students and other people who aren’t police to carry guns on college campuses, including athletic events.

The Senate didn’t debate House Bill 136 before Thursday’s 17-13 vote.

Senators voting against the bill included Sen. Ray Peterson (R-Cowley) and Sen. Hank Coe (R-Cody). Sen. Wyatt Agar (R-Thermopolis) was among the 13 who voted in favor.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the bill’s opponents included University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols and the presidents of six community colleges.
