Guardrails being upgraded: expect one lane traffic on bridges

TEN SLEEP — Four bridges are receiving safety improvements east of Ten Sleep on U.S. 16, and a 14-foot width restriction is in place across the bridges.
The 14-foot width restriction is in place on the project to allow the contractor to install temporary concrete barrier to protect workers while new bridge railing and guardrail are being installed, according to Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Dan McAfee of Worland.
“Please drive careful near the work zones and watch for construction workers. Give them a brake,” McAfee said.
Work began this week on the outside of the guard rails. Minor delays should be expected when work begins on the bridge rails. Traffic will be down to one lane, according to Cody Beers, Wyoming Department of Transportation public affairs spokesperson.
Prime contractor on the $951,000 project is HL Construction, Inc., of Billings. HL’s scope of work includes grading, removal and replacement of guardrail, bridge railing modifications and other work in Hot Springs and Washakie counties.
Beers said while some highway projects will be shut down around the solar eclipse, Aug. 21, it was uncertain if this project would be shut down during that time.
Once work is complete east of Ten Sleep, the contractor will head to work in Hot Springs County.
Contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2017.
