October fun at local libraries

October 5, 2017

National Friends of the Library Week is Oct. 15-21. This celebration is a time to promote the Friends of the Library in our communities and raise awareness about our libraries. It is an excellent opportunity for you to join the Friends groups and support your library.

We love October in the Library! There are many things planned this month starting with the Ten Sleep Harvest Dinner on Oct. 14 from 5-8 p.m. This event is held annually at the Ten Sleep School cafeteria. Dinner tickets are $10 for adults, $40 for a family and $5 for a child and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds from this dinner benefit the Ten Sleep Library and Ten Sleep Ambulance.

During this dinner the Friends of the Ten Sleep Library host their annual raffle and live auction. This is the main fundraiser for the Ten Sleep Friends and has grown every year. If you are interested in donating to this raffle and live auction the Friends are currently accepting new gift and craft items at the Ten Sleep Library. As items arrive they are put out on display so drop by soon for a preview. Raffle tickets are $1. Please feel free to drop donated items at the Worland Library and we will make sure they get to Ten Sleep.

The Ten Sleep Friends will also be hosting their fall book sale Oct 10-17 during normal business hours. Please come and take a box of books, leave a donation, and you may find a treasure!

The Friends of the Worland Library are hosting their “Fall Autumn Tea: Honoring Wyoming’s First Ladies” as their main fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The guest speaker will be Debbie Hammons. Debbie has written and produced numerous Wyoming Public Television history specials and will share her personal stories she has collected over the years. She will trace the changes for women as they served as Wyoming’s First Ladies. Please join us at St. Alban’s Parish Hall and enjoy a luncheon of tasty soups, breads and mouth-watering desserts. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Washakie County Library.

Now is your chance to get involved in the Washakie County Library Squash Decorating Contest! Check out Pinterest for decorating ideas, look in magazines, use your imagination! The only rule is, NO CARVING. Drop off your decorated squash, zucchini, pumpkin or gourd before Oct. 16 and winners will be selected by popular vote and announced on Oct. 23. Prizes will be awarded.

Do your kids need a place to go after school? The Washakie County Library is starting the “Be-Tween Bunch” for boys and girls ages 9-13. This new program is just for tweens and will meet twice a month from 4-5 p.m. to create fun pieces of art. Join Jenna on Oct. 23 to make fall leaf candles and dragon eggs and on Oct. 31 we will finish the dragon eggs and paint splat monsters!

Now for the business side of the library. If you have always wanted a job working in the library now is your chance. We are looking for a part time employee in the Ten Sleep Branch Library. If you have experience in customer service, computer know-how, love working with children as well as adults, and love to talk about books, then this could be your dream job! Please come in for an application, or call Karen at 366-2348 for more information. The Washakie County Library and Ten Sleep Branch will be closed for Columbus Day Oct. 7 and 9.
