3A State Volleyball Tournament: Lady Warriors take on Star Valley today in Casper

November 2, 2017

WORLAND — After winning three straight matches to take third place at last weekend’s 3A East Regional Volleyball Tournament, the Worland Lady Warriors kick off the state tournament today at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Warriors quarterfinal matchup at the state tournament will be the Star Valley Lady Braves, the defending state champions. Worland Coach Brittany Miller likes the matchup and believes if her team serves and passes like they did Saturday, chances of advancing to the semifinals will increase.

“I think we match up with them really well. If we serve like we did on the Saturday at regionals and are able to pass the ball where we can utilize our middle attack, I think we match up with them very well and I’m excited about this draw.

“They set the outside hitter, they set they outside hitter and they set the outside hitter. The more we can get their outside hitter out of system, where they’re sending balls we can pass up, will be huge. Unless they scout us very hard, they single blocked during their regional tournament and Saige Jones isn’t a girl you want to leave alone. But we can only get the ball to Saige if we pass well. So it will come down to serving and passing and we’re going to focus on that all week,” said Miller.

The Lady Warriors take on the Lady Braves at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Casper Events.

A win will put Worland against the winner of Douglas and Mountain View at 4:30 p.m. Friday. A loss moves Worland to the consolation bracket and they would play the loser of the Douglas-Mountain View matchup at 1 p.m. Friday.

Teams on the other side of the bracket are Rawlins, Lyman, Torrington and Riverton.
