‘No foul play’ in body discovered in Basin yard

BASIN — There appears to be no signs of foul play surrounding a body discovered in a Basin yard Monday afternoon.

According to press release from Basin Chief of Police Chris Kampbell, police officers from the Basin Police Department and deputies from the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address in the 600 block of West A Street in Basin of an unattended death.

The homeowner discovered the body of a male, approximately 60 years old, lying in the yard next to the garage, near the alleyway.

Law enforcement officers along with the county coroner thoroughly examined the scene.

After initial investigation, the cause of death has yet to be determined.

“As unusual as this incident is, there does not appear to be any obvious signs of foul play” said Kampbell. “It is really unclear what caused this person’s death. It may have been a natural event, environmental or some other cause yet to be determined. We really do not know yet.”

Kampbell said in the release that the estimated time of death was 12-15 hours before it was discovered.

An autopsy is scheduled for a later this week.

The name of the deceased person is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.
