Roy C. Johnson

Roy C. Johnson, 92, a lifelong resident of Worland, Wyoming, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018. Roy was born on December 20, 1925 in Worland, WY. He started playing the trombone in 5th grade and this was a lifelong passion. Roy played locally and internationally while in military service. Roy graduated from Worland High School in 1944, after which he was drafted into the United States Army. While in the Army he was a firing range instructor and he also taught translation courses so he could train other soldiers while in Panama. After a 24-year career serving in the Army, he retired as a Sargent Major (SGM) in 1965. When Roy returned to Worland thereafter, he worked in the Credit Bureau of Worland and Cody with his mother for 23 years. After which, he went to work for Washakie County as the Emergency Management Coordinator for seven years. In 1997 he resigned due to personal health concerns. Roy enjoyed fly fishing and he also took up the guitar at age 77. He enjoyed accompanying Margie in the local Old Time Fiddle Association.


Roy is preceded in death by his parents and sons Steven and Gregory Johnson. Roy was married to Nancy Lee Lucas for over 30 years and the couple had four children. After Nancy's passing, he married Barbara Tittus. Barbara passed away shortly after their marriage. Roy was then married to Joyce Strickler and was married to her for approximately six years before her death. In 2004 Roy married Margie Whitney and has been happily married thereafter.


Roy is survived by his beloved wife Margie of Worland. Daughter, Cathy (Mike) Bellah of Hemphill, TX and his son Russell Johnson of Worland. His three cousins Tom and Cheryl Schultz of Cody, WY, Johanna Cubbage of Garland, WY, and Maxine Watson of Sheridan, WY. His legacy also includes eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Worland Presbyterian Church with Reverend Guy Helms officiating. Following the service, the inurnment with military honors will be held at Riverview Memorial Gardens. A light reception will follow back at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children c/o Veile Mortuary P.O. Box 730 Worland, Wyoming. Arrangements have been entrusted to Veile Mortuary.
