WORLAND – The Worland Speech and Debate team went to Natrona County for their most recent tournament two weeks ago. This tournament was the second biggest tournament of the state with 30 schools competing from Wyoming and outside the state.

Finishing fourth place overall, the team achieved third in Wyoming schools overall.

“We had two duets go to semifinals, Guendylan Byrd with Raeth Tolman and Jack Vines with Cody Butterfield.” Rick Dorn, WHS forensics coach said. “We also had Jack Vines go to finals in poetry and Nathaniel Nelson go to finals in humor.”

The team’s next tournament is this weekend at Thunder Basin High in Gillette. They start competing Friday afternoon, finishing up Saturday afternoon.

“We hope to win that one,” Dorn said. “It’s a little smaller tournament with just the east side of the state competing.”

“This is always a building process, so we’re seeing a lot of improvement from everyone.” Dorn said. “Right now, our leading competitors are Jack Vines and Nathaniel Nelson.”

The Worland High School will be hosting their own tournament March 2-3.

“We have 21 schools competing, and we need many judges,” Dorn said. “We will have 46 rooms competing at one time, so we need over 46 judges every round.”

Anyone out of high school can judge, with no experience necessary.

Dorn said he can work around volunteer’s schedules. Each round will last about an hour and a half. If interested, Dorn requests to call him at 431-8390.
