Worland High School speech and debate hope to cap season with place at state meet

WORLAND – With a successful regular season behind them, the Worland High School speech and debate team is now focusing on their next meet, the state meet this Thursday through Saturday in Lander.

WORLAND – With a successful regular season behind them, the Worland High School speech and debate team is now focusing on their next meet, the state meet this Thursday through Saturday in Lander.

Those who will be competing are Kaitlyn Bostrom and Tatum Zimmerman in duo, Nick Bower and Kim Sumida in cross-examination debate, Emily Brown in Lincoln-Douglas debate and poetry, Cody Butterfield and Jack Vines as a duo, Vines in poetry, Guendylan Byrd and Raeth Tolman as a duo, Tolman in humor, Paris Caines and Rachael Carver in CX debate, Rachael Carver in poetry, Arora Chamberlain and Emily Wheeler in public forum sebate, Arora Chamberlain in extemporaneous speaking, Wheeler in Congress, Madeline Martinson and Zoe Fernandez in CX debate, Madeline Martinson in Congress, Caylin Deniz in informative, Sullie-Ann Keuntjes in poetry and drama, Clare Neylon and Nathaniel Nelson as a duo, and Nelson in humor.

“It’s been an interesting season,” coach Rick Dorn said. “State will be a bloodbath because there’s so many 3A schools that are being really successful this year. State will come down to a showdown between five or six schools, and we hope we can do well.”

He added, “State is so massive that we don’t even guess on who will make it. Forty schools are there from every size of school in Wyoming. If we can get four entries to go to finals (in four different areas) then we’re in good shape. The kids have shown great dedication, and the cream has risen to the top at most meets.”
